Education: RCCC offering motorcycle riding courses

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer basic and experienced motorcycle rider courses throughout the spring. The courses are co-sponsored by the N.C. Motorcycle Safety Education Program and RideNow Powersports in Concord.
RCCC is offering weekend and weekday basic rider classes. The course fee is $140. Weekday classes meet 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 30-31, April 23-24 and May 21-22. The weekend classes meet 6 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend basic rider class schedule includes:

Participants must provide their own motorcycle, DOT-approved helmet, eye protection and appropriate clothing. Course objectives include helping inexperienced riders develop the mental and physical skills needed for safe motorcycling and an awareness of the risks involved in riding.
The experienced riders class will meet April 25 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The course fee is $55. Students must have six months or 3,000 miles of riding experience, a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle permit, and a street-legal and properly licensed and insured motorcycle. Students also must wear a DOT-approved helmet and appropriate motorcycle riding clothes.
The experienced riders class will teach students motorcycle dynamics, traction control, emergency braking, counter steering and counter balancing.
All of the classes will meet at RideNow Powersports, 254 Concord Parkway S. However, students must register through RCCC’s Continuing Education Department.
