Wingate University
Wingate University has named three area students to the dean’s list for spring semester 2009. The dean’s list requires a term GPA of 3.30 or at least 12 academic hours with no grade below a C.
The students are:
– Robert Whitley Alexander of Rockwell, son of Larry and June Alexander;
– Austin James Lowe of Salisbury, son of John and Donna Lowe;
– Leah Beth Powell of Woodleaf, daughter of Robert and Brenda Powell.
Two area students received bachelor of science degrees from Wingate University on May 9.
– David Marc Morgan of Salisbury, son of James and Levonda Morgan.
– Jyllian Tachara Vinson of Salisbury, daughter of Jasper and Carolyn Vinson.
Ebenezer Scholarships
Eleven students have received scholarships from the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Endowment Scholarship Fund.
Members of Ebenezer who got scholarships include Brittany Helms, Ryker Helms and James Hewitt. Other recipients are Alexandra Caldwell, Lindsay Frye, Nicholas Haigler, Keely Jones, Charlotte Smith, Clayton Stirewalt and Tiffany Wilson.
Catawba open house
Catawba College’s School of Evening Studies will sponsor an open house from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 29, in Ketner Hall, Room 201.
Prospective students will be given an overview of the program and financial aid opportunities.
Two bachelor’s degree programs are offered in the evening: business administration with concentrations in management and information systems, and birth-kindergarten education for community college graduates who have completed the A.A.S. degree with the early childhood associate major.
The block format in the evening allows students to concentrate on one course at a time. Classes meet on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-9:45 p.m. and one Saturday morning per month from 8-11:45 a.m. Students complete one course per month for 12 or more credit hours per semester.
Tuition in the evening program is comparable to that of North Carolina public universities, and federal and state financial aid is available. To enroll in the program, students must be at least 21 years old or hold an associate’s degree from a community college.
According to Edith Bolick, dean of the School of Evening and Graduate Studies, “Many students are taking a proactive approach to the current economic climate by completing their degrees or enrolling in college for the first time. Our graduates report that our classroom-based program and our one-course-per-month block format have been essential to their successful degree completion.”
