Education: Mooresville native receives music award at Clemson University

Nathan Whittaker, a native of Mooresville, was recognized recently for his academic achievements in music at Clemson University.
Whittaker received the Outstanding Student in Performing Arts Music Award and the Mu Beta Psi Band Award at the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities 2009 honors and awards ceremony.
Majoring in production studies in performing arts with a concentration in music, Whittaker plays the bass and tenor trombone, as well as piano. He is a member of the Clemson University marching band, pep band, jazz ensemble and symphonic band.
The son of Charles and Nancy Whittaker of Mooresville, he is a graduate of South Iredell High School.
The award from Mu Beta Psi, national honorary music fraternity, recognizes musical excellence on the part of the student members in the university bands, university orchestra and university choral organizations.
The Outstanding Student in Performing Arts Music Award winner is selected by the performing arts faculty.

Scholarship
Shakaela Monique Webb, a senior at West Rowan High School, has received a $1,500 scholarship from North Carolina State USBC Scholarship Program.
She plans to attend N.C. State University in Raleigh. She is the daughter of Alicia Barber and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Webb Jr. and granddaughter of Helen Corpening.
