Education – Masonic Scholarship Fund awards 2009 scholarships

The Rowan County Masonic Scholarship Fund has awarded its 2009 scholarships to Caitlin Earnhardt, Hannah Fisher, Samantha Grooms, Alexandréa Worthy and Joshua Young. The scholarship awards are for $500.
Earnhardt is the daughter or Doug and Zetta Earnhardt. She attends the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham. Before going to NCSSM, she attended Carson and South Rowan high schools. She plans to attend East Carolina University where she has been accepted into the early medical school admissions program.
Fisher is the daughter of Mike Fisher and Crystal Sifford. She attends South Rowan High School. She will attend Catawba College in the fall where she will major in elementary education.
Grooms is the daughter of Anthony and Sarah Sharum. She attends Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She is a 2005 graduate of East Rowan High School. After completing her degree at RCCC, she will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and pursue a degree in history education.
Worthy is the daughter of Delores Bennett-Brown. She attends North Rowan High School. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh with pre-medicine as her field of study.
Joshua Young is the son of Joel and Lisa Young. He is also a senior at North Rowan High School. He plans to attend North Carolina State University with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
The Rowan County Masonic Scholarship Fund is an endowment administered by the six Masonic lodges in Rowan County: Fulton 99 and Andrew Jackson 576, Salisbury; Scotch Ireland 154, Cleveland; Eureka 283, China Grove; Spencer 543, Spencer; and Keller Memorial 657, Rockwell. It is open to any resident of Rowan County pursuing higher education at an accredited institution. Applications may be obtained from any lodge secretary or through area high school guidance counselors.
Since its inception in 1988, the fund has awarded 61 scholarships valued at $30,500. Contributions to the Rowan County Masonic Scholarship Fund may be made through any of the county’s Masonic lodges or through David Potts, P.O. Box 971, Salisbury, NC 28145-0971.
