In 1983, East Rowan High School Principal Clinton LeGette asked the Granite Quarry Civitan club to have some kind of recognition for the top scholars in each class at ERHS.
He thought that other groups were recognized throughout the year and that scholars should be recognized, as well. The Civitans agreed to have a Civitan Scholars’ Banquet each spring, inviting the top 10 scholars and their parents. This year, East Rowan, the Granite Quarry Civitans, and the East Rowan Junior Civitans sponsored the 26th annual banquet on April 23.
Some classes have more than 10 scholars being honored because of a tie in GPA.
