High school scholars
Amanda R. Ritchie of Kannapolis has been selected for memership in the National Society of High School Scholars. She is a student at A.L. Brown High School. Students slected are eligible for scholarships and the use of ther resources.
Appalachian honor student
William Owen Hurst, son of Dr. Hugh and Janie Hurst of Salisbury, has been named an academic honor student at Appalachian State University.
This honor is awarded to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have a cumulative 3.9 or higher grade point average.
Appalachian dean’s list
Stevey C. Land, daughter of Jayne and Steve Land of Salisbury, has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Appalachian State University.
Students must have a grade point average of 3.45 or higher to make the list.
Excelsior graduate
Jennifer C. Whiting, a resident of Kannapolis, has earned an associate in science in nursing degree from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y.
Excelsior College (www.excelsior.edu) is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution that focuses on the needs of working adults.
