Peter Frumhoff, a world-renowned global change ecologist, will speak on “The State of Climate Change Science & Policy in the U.S.” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, in Room 300 of the Center for the Environment building on the Catawba College campus.
A reception will follow the talk.
Frumhoff is director of science and policy at the Union of Concerned Scientists and chief scientist of the UCS Climate Campaign. He is a lead author of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was previously a lead author of the IPCC Special Report on Land Use, Land-use Change and Forestry.
He has published and lectured widely on topics ranging from climate change impacts to tropical forest conservation and management.
Frumhoff has taught at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Harvard University and the University of Maryland.
He has also served as an AAAS Science and Diplomacy Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development, where he designed and led conservation and rural development programs in Latin America and East Africa.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
