Durham teacher’s assistant faces new charges
DURHAM (AP) ó A former teacher’s assistant at a North Carolina elementary school accused of having sex with a student now faces kidnapping charges.
Forty-year-old Gina Marie Watring was indicted by a grand jury on Monday on a charge of kidnapping and felony child abduction. Watring resigned several weeks ago from her job as a teacher’s assistant at Creekside Elementary School in Durham.
Watring had been arrested in April and charged with sexual offense with a student. Arrest warrants accuse her of having sex with a student twice.
The charges came after a classmate of the student who says he had sex with the teacher found a note.
An attorney representing Watring at her initial arrest said the charges were the result of an infatuation on the part of the student.
