The Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord and events surrounding the race will cause major congestion all weekend on Interstate 85, U.S. 29, U.S. 49 and Bruton Smith Boulevard, says the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The Department of Transportation plans to use overhead and portable message signs to alert motorists to problem areas and suggest alternate routes around incidents and congestion. The agency expects a major impact on on traffic as attendance at the race is expected to exceed 160,000.
Motorists who do not need to travel in the Lowe’s Motor Speedway area during events are strongly encouraged to avoid the area. Motorists are also asked to drive cautiously and be aware of changing signs and law enforcement personnel.
