A 3-year-old Rowan County girl suffered extensive injuries to her face Saturday evening after being bitten by a dog.
The girl’s parents, rushing her by car to Rowan Regional Medical Center, decided to seek more immediate attention and pulled into Salisbury Fire Station No. 2 on South Main Street.
There, firefighters administered some advanced first-aid treatment and evaluated her injuries until Rowan County paramedics arrived.
“It was kind of a hectic situation,” Salisbury Fire Capt. Tim Hurlocker said.
There were no details Saturday night on where the incident happened or what kind of dog was involved.
A helicopter flew the child to Carolinas Medical Center from Rowan Regional at about 8:30 p.m. in case she needed a plastic surgeon.
Emergency dispatches said the girl had at least three one-inch cuts near her right cheek and holes and tears on the left side of her face. There was a deep cut under her left eye, reports said.
Emergency responders first received information on the dog attack about 7:37 p.m.
