CONCORD ó Cabarrus Neighborhood Partners is gearing up for its third annual local government education initiative, County Government 101.
Residents interested in learning more about local government and becoming more involved in their community are encouraged to take part in the course which begins Sept. 29. The course includes presentations from Cabarrus County elected officials and department heads, as well as tours of several county facilities.
County Government 101 is an eight-week course that educates residents about how local government functions and the many programs and services available to Cabarrus County residents.
The course helps develop future leaders and build a better community through well-informed and civically engaged residents.
Class participants will take part in activities such as a simulated “balanced budget” exercise, tour of the Cabarrus County Jail Annex, planning a neighborhood and many more activities at different county facilities.
The class will meet every Tuesday beginning Sept. 29 through Nov. 16 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Classes will be held at the Cabarrus County Governmental Center in the multipurpose room located on the second floor.
A graduation ceremony will take place on Monday, Nov. 16, following the Board of Commissioners meeting.
County Government 101 is open to any person 18 years of age or older who is a resident of Cabarrus County. Neighborhood presidents, board members and neighborhood representatives are encouraged to take part in this course.
“We are excited that County Government 101 is celebrating its third anniversary. This program is designed to provide residents an insider view of county government,” says Cabarrus County Community Relations Coordinator Chantel Thompson. “This experience creates an atmosphere where residents and county leadership can talk face-to-face about programs and services that help increase the quality of life for all residents.”
Class size is limited to 30 participants and registration is required.
