Salisbury City Council has passed a new resolution supporting replacement of the Interstate 85 bridge over the Yadkin River.
The resolution is an update of one passed a couple of years ago by council. This time, it expresses support of efforts by state and federal officials to obtain 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for the bridge’s replacement.
It also urges state and federal representatives to make the bridge’s replacement a priority and seek funds outside of the state’s regular “equity formula” for transportation funding.
Replacement of the bridge has an estimated price tag of at least $300 million.
