A standoff at a Concord apartment complex ended Tuesday in man’s arrest.
At about 6 p.m. Tuesday, George Wesley Benfield, 28, of 5614 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, refused to turn himself in to bondsmen and police officers awaiting his arrest outside Woodbrook Apartments on Lake Concord Road in Concord.
Benfield had been at this address visiting someone when he threatened to use a firearm, saying he would not be arrested.
The Concord Police Special Operations Team responded, and negotiators with the police department got Benfield to surrender peacefully around 8:30 p.m.
No one was inside the home at the time. Once Benfield turned himself in to police, residents were allowed to return to their apartments.
Mecklenburg County had warrants on Benfield for numerous charges, including one count of failing to appear for possession of cocaine, two counts of failing to appear for failure to return rental property, a warrant for arrest on one count of possession of cocaine, a warrant for a simple assault, a warrant for hit and run property damage, a warrant for driving while license revoked.
He was also cited by Concord Police for resisting and delaying a government official.
