CONCORD ó Police have charged a man with first-degree murder after they say he shot another man at a convenience store parking lot.
Lamar Deshawn Young, 19, of 1484 Old Charlotte Road, was being held without bond Friday night in the Cabarrus County Detention Center.
According to a report from the Concord Police Department, officers received a call around 4:15 p.m. Friday of an assault with a gun at J’s Mini Mart on Old Charlotte Road.
David Brandon Melton, 28, of 3662 Patriots Point, was shot in the store’s parking lot but was able to walk inside the business. Concord Fire and Life Safety and Cabarrus County EMS responded and transported Melton to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, where he died.
Witnesses told officers that a suspect had left the area walking on Old Charlotte Road in the direction of Cabarrus Avenue.
Officers set up a perimeter and, with the help of police dogs and a helicopter from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, found the suspect hiding near the railroad tracks.
