The Christian Science Reading Room in Salisbury will join with other Christian Science Reading Rooms around the world for an International Open House noon-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
The Christian Science Reading Room in Salisbury is located at 121 W. Innes St., Suite B (across the courtyard from the Salisbury Post).
The special open house weekend coincides with the launch of the new weekly edition of The Christian Science Monitor.
“This new edition will continue to deliver the thoughtful, in-depth, global news that has characterized the Pulitzer PrizeÅ„winning news organization over the last 100 years,” a press release from the organization said.
“Each issue will help readers connect the dots on pivotal events and emerging trends around the world, and include special coverage of key topics such as the environment, innovations that improve lives and global financial trends.”
Today, there are more than 1,500 Christian Science Reading Rooms in 80-plus countries serving their communities by offering books, publications and other materials for the exploration of spirituality, prayer and health.
These stores are open to the public and welcome people of all faiths, backgrounds and ways of life.
The first Christian Science Reading Room was established in 1888 by Mary Baker Eddy to make her book “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” more widely available.
Her book on the Bible and spiritual healing established her as the leader of the worldwide Christian Science movement, which today includes church members, lecturers, teachers and practitioners of healing.
Eddy is also the founder of the newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.
The Monitor’s new weekly edition now complements daily coverage on the Monitor’s enhanced Web site, www.csmonitor.com.
The new Web edition will feature continuously updated, original reporting seven days a week. The date of the first issue of the Monitor’s new weekly edition was Sunday (April 12). It is now available for purchase in Christian Science Reading Rooms.
Guests at the open house this weekend are invited to find out more about The Christian Science Monitor, browse, ask questions and take advantage of the spiritual resources available in the Reading Room.
