Darryl Corriher, of C&H Grain LLC, took third place in the no till/strip till non-irrigated division of the 2008 National Corn Grower’s Association yield contest in North Carolina, an annual competition among corn producers with the goal of producing the highest yields.
Corriher won with Pioneer brand hybrid 31G97, which yielded 236 bushels per acre.
He planted the crop in 30-inch rows using a JD 1770 NT 12-row planter at the rate of 31,000 seeds per acre. He applied a total of 140 pounds of nitrogen and 68 pounds of phosphorous per acre.
