China Grove board considers permit for church

CHINA GROVE ó The Board of Aldermen will consider a request for a conditional use permit to allow a church to operate on Ross Street in a primarily residential area.
Victory Baptist Church, which now operates from a rented space on Centerview, seeks to buy a former church building on Ross Street.Aldermen will conduct a public hearing this evening on the request, which has received the endorsement of the town’s Planning Board.
In other business, the board will hear information or consider the following:
– Consider changes in the bylaws for the Salisbury-Rowan Economic Development Commission.
– Hear requests from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
– Town Manager Bill Pless will present a proposed work schedule for adopting the 2010 budget.
– Pless will also update the board on the public safety building and possible improvements.
– Public Works Director David Ketner will present an update on plans to build new sidewalks.
The Board of Aldermen meets at 7 tonight at the Municipal Building, 205 Swink St.
