Catawba donates land to city
Catawba College has donated a 2.1-acre parcel off Hawkins Avenue to the city of Salisbury.
Hawkins Avenue is located off Hawkinstown Road, and the donated property sits along Grants Creek.
The city already was maintaining a right of way through the property.
Salisbury Planning Director Joe Morris said the property lies within a proposed Salisbury Greenway corridor that could some day link Mocksville Avenue with 7th Street in Spencer.
Salisbury City Council accepted the donated land Tuesday. The city will bear the cost of a survey.
The property as an assessed value on the Rowan County tax books of $3,150.
