Public Health Director Dr. William F. Pilkington said the health alliance administered more than 2,300 doses of vaccine last week at its first H1N1 flu clinic.
Pilkington said vaccine will be available today for the following target groups, based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
– Pregnant women
– Household and caregiver contacts of children younger than 6 months old (for example, parents, siblings and daycare providers)
– Health care and emergency medical services personnel
– People from 6 months to 24 years old;
– People 25 to 64 years old who have medical conditions associated with a higher risk of flu complications (such as diabetes, asthma, heart conditions, weakened immune systems)
People who want the vaccine should bring their insurance cards, Medicare or Medicaid cards. No fee will be charged to the patient.
People who present with flu-like symptoms are not eligible for vaccination.
As more vaccine becomes available, additional clinics will be held.
