Business roundup: Kidsports offers afterschool programs

KidSports is now enrolling students in the afterschool program. Openings are available and pick-up is provided for Granite Quarry, Hurley, Isenburg, Knollwood, North Rowan, Overton and Woodleaf elementary schools. Pick-up is also provided for private schools North Hills Christian, Sacred Heart and Salisbury Academy.
The AfterSchool Program at KidSports is a structured program designed to provide children with both an entertaining and educational experience. The program includes free-play, quiet/homework time, organized activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, and a free snack.
Children are supervised in all activities, including homework assistance.
Afterschool hours are Monday through Friday from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. Two, three or five-day enrollment or daily rates are available.

– Performance Fibers awarded Carolina Star
The N.C. Department of Labor recertified the Carolina Star Award for Performance Fibers facility in Salisbury on Aug. 20. The Carolina Star Program recognizes companies for their commitment to the safety and health of their employees.
This facility was originally certified as a Rising Star Site on Sept. 27, 2006, and was promoted to Carolina Star status on Feb. 19, 2007.
The Carolina Star is the most prestigious safety recognition given by the N.C. Department of Labor. One criterion of the program is that worker injury and illness rates and lost/restricted workday rates must be at least 50 percent below the national rate for the company’s industry.
There are 118 Star sites in North Carolina.
– New doctor joins Mid Carolina Cardiology
Mid Carolina Cardiology and Presbyterian Novant Medical Group welcomed Apur R. Kamdar, M.D., to its Salisbury location at 911 W. Henderson St.
Kamdar is a cardiologist specializing in invasive and interventional cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear medicine.
Kamdar earned a medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Akron, Ohio, and completed his internship and residency at Summa Health System/Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, as well as a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Emory University in Atlanta.
Kamdar will care for patients at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
– Community College board to meet Monday
The next meeting of the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the South Campus, Building 1000, room 106.
The agenda includes:
– Recognition of contributions from the Duke Energy Community College Grant Program and the Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation Inc.
