Joe Moose, pharmacist at Moose Pharmacy of Concord, received the 2009 M. Keith Fearing Jr. Community Pharmacy Practice Award from Campbell University.
Moose graduated from Campbell University School of Pharmacy in 1990. Moose is a fourth generation pharmacist whose great-grandfather started the company.
The M. Keith Fearing Community Pharmacy Practice Award is given in memory of Keith Fearing, a 1941 Campbell alumnus who was instrumental in the establishment of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy.
The Fearing award was established in 1997 to honor Fearing’s memory and his contributions to community pharmacy practice. Fearing was also a founding member of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy.
“As a Campbell graduate, I understand the significance of this award,” Moose said. “Mr. Fearing was a paragon in the field of pharmacy. I’m honored to receive this recognition.”
“This is one of the highest honors in the pharmacy community,” said Dr. Ronald W. Maddox, dean of the School of Pharmacy at Campbell University. “Joe demonstrates the traits of a caring, progressive and successful community pharmacist.”
Moose Pharmacy has locations in Mt. Pleasant, Concord, Midland and Salisbury.
The Campbell University School of Pharmacy was established in 1986 as the first new school of pharmacy to open in the United States in 35 years. In 1990, the charter class distinguished itself with a 100 percent passage rate on state and national board examinations.

EnergyUnited begins campaign
STATESVILLE ó EnergyUnited has launched a program aimed at helping to craft an affordable national energy policy.
The “Find a Balanced Solution” campaign explains current national energy policy issues and provides consumers with ways to get in touch with their elected officials to keep their electric rates affordable.
The campaign is a joint effort of several states’ electric cooperatives in the Southeast.
It includes a toll-free phone number and Web site that can connect consumers with their congressional representatives. The Web site is www.findabalancedsolution.com
The Find a Balanced Solution Web site has information about factors that are influencing electricity costs, legislative issues and renewable energy.
“We encourage electric cooperative members and all electricity consumers to spend time on the Web site to learn about the ways Congress can balance environmental needs with family budgets,” said H. Wayne Wilkins, chief executive officer.
“When consumers feel like they understand the issues, we urge them to call their elected officials by using the toll-free telephone number or to contact their representatives by sending an e-mail, which they can do through the Web site.”
This year, Congress will likely vote on legislation that raises energy costs to accomplish environmental goals, the company said, adding several pieces of legislation could raise electric rates by 40 percent.
EnergyUnited serves more than 119,000 electricity customers in 19 N.C. counties, stretching from Virginia to northern Mecklenburg County. Some customers are located in western Rowan County.
