Education: Earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Bennett College in Greensboro. Continued her education with a master’s degree in journalism from New York University.
Career path/boards: An English teacher for the Salisbury-Rowan School System for more than 30 years. Much of her time was spent teaching at Salisbury High. Trustee for the Rowan Museum and a member of the Zion Lutheran Connection.
Family: Husband, Fred; son, Fredrick Evans; daughter, Janine Evans Davis. Four grandchildren: Kristen Evans, Adria Davis, Lauryn Davis and Fredrick Evans Jr.
Role models: Grandparents Dr. J.E.K. Aggrey and Rose Aggrey, father Spencer Lancaster and mother Abna Lancaster.

What legacy do you want to leave behind: My commitment to family life, education, religion, community and unselfishness.
What does Barack Obama’s win as the nation’s first African-American president signify for you: Barack Obama’s winning was an historic victory for the American people and one that has made me extremely proud.
I hope his presidency will bring a dramatic yet positive change for America. I believe he is a man of integrity and I wish him continued success. To me, President Obama is the personification of the American dream.
