August unemployment numbers down — slightly

Unemployment numbers for Rowan County dropped in August ó just barely, but still lower than in July.
The rate for August was 13.2 percent, half a percentage point lower than in July. That translates to 9,351 people unemployed in the county.
Counties near Rowan saw similar drops.
– Cabarrus County’s rate was 11.4 percent, a .2 percentage point decrease.
– Davidson County’s rate was 13.1 percent, a .3 percentage point decrease.
– Davie County’s rate was 11.6 percent, a .7 percentage point decrease.
– Iredell County’s rate was 12.4 percent, a .5 percentage point decrease.
– Mecklenburg County’s rate was 11.3 percent, a .4 percentage point decrease.
– Stanly County’s rate was 12.2 percent, a .4 percentage point decrease.
Across the state, unemployment was at 10.8 percent, .1 percentage point lower than in July. Four counties saw an increase, and six counties had rates that stayed the same.
The county with the lowest unemployment rate was Currituck, at 5.1 percent. Scotland County had the highest rate, at 16.5 percent.
