Annual Clergy and Community Leaders Luncheon set for Tuesday at Rowan Regional: Faith briefs

There will be a free annual Clergy and Community Leaders Luncheon at the Rowan Regional Medical Center Cafeteria, Tuesday, Sept. 29, from noon to 1 p.m. All church representatives and their guests are invited.
Melissa L. Robson, RN, MHA, will present the new RRMC-NOVANT system for Excellence in Care. Special guest will be Mayor Susan Kluttz.
Salisbury-Rowan ministers, both old and new, are encouraged to meet and greet at this fall kick-off. Monthly volunteers are needed as “Chaplains on Call” for general visitation and/or hospice patient visitation.

Members 70 or older and couples married 50 or more years will be honored at the 11 a.m. worship service and with a dinner afterward in the Family Life Center.
Concordia has 100 members age 70 or older and 24 couples married 50 years or more. Special music will be presented at the service by the Men’s Chorus, directed by Helen Campbell. Pianist is Mrs. Frankie Freeze.
The Rev. Floyd W. Bost will be the guest minister. He is a 1948 graduate of Landis High School. He received a B.A. degree from Newberry College and graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C. in 1956.
He was the dean of the Central District of the NC Lutheran Synod from 1977 to 1980 and member of the board of trustees of the N.C. Lutheran Home from 1975 to 1980. He was a member of the executive board of the N.C. Lutheran Synod from 1980 to 1983.
His pastorates have included Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell from 1955-1958, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Salisbury, from 1964-1982, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Salisbury, from 1991-1995. He retired in 1995 and has served in several churches as an interim pastor and supplied in many Lutheran churches.
Franklin BaptistFranklin Baptist Church will be celebrating homecoming on Sept. 27 with the Rev. Larry Twitty.
There will be a combined service at 11 a.m., followed by a covered-dish fellowship dinner. There will be no 8:30 a.m. service.
Celebrations will continue in the evening with a bluegrass group, The Wells Family Band at 6 p.m..
Fairview Heights
Fairview Heights Baptist Church Gospel Choir will be celebrating its eighth anniversary Sunday at 4 p.m. Various groups will sing.
The Rev. Clarence E. Marlin, pastor of Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, has graduated from the American Association of Christian Counseling through Light University.
The commencement was held in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 19.
Bible Women
On Oct. 11, starting at 6 p.m. at the Event Center, “Girlfriends,” a women’s ministry, is calling all women to unite for a dramatization and intimate study of “Women of the Bible.”
Tina Godair started this ministry four years ago, and they have offered women in surrounding counties spa treatments at Grove Park, women’s conferences at Biltmore Estate and other events.

Faith Lutheran
FAITH ó Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate 110 years of service with homecoming this Sunday.
The church was chartered as Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church on May 26, 1899, with 14 members. Sixteen ordained pastors have come out of Faith Lutheran since its beginning. One of those pastors, a son of the congregation, will come home to serve as the guest preacher for the homecoming worship service.
The congregation will welcome back the Rev. Gene Wayne Bruce, the son of the late Armond and Lillian Jacobs Bruce, formerly of Faith and members of the church.
Bruce is a 1965 graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University and holds a sociology degree. He is a 1969 graduate of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S. C. He was ordained on June 1, 1969 by the North Carolina Lutheran Synod.
He is a retired pastor, serving most recently at Mt. Hermon/Sharon parish in Statesville until his retirement in 2008. Currently he is the interim pastor at Amity Lutheran Church in Cleveland.
Bruce and his wife, Patricia Moore Bruce, are residents of Trinity Oaks in Salisbury. They have two sons and one daughter .
The homecoming celebration will begin with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. for all ages. The worship service will be a joint service of Faith Works, the contemporary service, and the traditional service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Worshippers and guests are asked to note the revised time for Sunday school and worship.
Following the morning opportunities for worship and study, a covered dish luncheon will be served in the family life center.

The movie “Left Behind: World at War” will be shown in the auditorium of Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 27, 6:30 p.m.
The movie is based on the book series phenomenon, “Left Behind.” It stars Gordon Currie, Lou Gossett Jr., and Kirk Cameron.
The movie is rated PG-13.

Organ Lutheran
Organ Lutheran Church will have a “Blessing of Faith Chests” on Sunday, Sept. 27 at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
Phil Brady and son Matthew, members of Organ, built 46 wooden chests for those who signed up for one this past spring.
Donations of wood were given by Andy Frick, owner of Blandy Hardwood. Boards were dressed by Jimmy Robertson and Gary Curley of CR Millworks.

6 p.m. ó Dwayne, with Wycliffe Bible Translators, will be guest speaker. As Software Development Manager, he manages five programmers in Chennai, India and three in Orlando. This software is used in over 70 countries to record information about Wycliffe missionaries and language projects.
Rhonda works in Wycliffe’s museum, leading private school and home school programs designed to teach children about other cultures and inspire future Bible translators.
Providence AME Zion
Mission Sunday will be observed at Providence AME Zion Church this Sunday. The theme is “Who is My Neighbor? Sharing Resources, Changing Lives. The speaker is Dorothy M. Gill-Smith.
She is a member of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church where she is active in a number of capacities.

The annual Women’s Day Program will be observed Sunday during the morning worship service at Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church.Also to be observed is Mission Day, which is a connectional day for all AME Zion Churches.
Alisa Russell will speak. She is married to Thomas Russell and they are the parents of three children and have several grandchildren.
