The Rowan County Animal Control reported the 16th rabies case of the year.  A 1-year-old puggle, beagle and pug mix, named Elvis was exposed to a rabid skunk.

The incident occurred Sept. 18 at the home of Tara Stroud of Rockwell.
“We weren’t sure he was bitten. We never saw puncture wounds or blood,” Stroud said.

She knew the dog was current on its vaccinations, but she was unable to immediately produce his papers.
After three days in quarantine, Elvis was released after Stroud found proof the dog had been vaccinated. Test results proved the skunk was positive for rabies.
