4-H dog show a howling good time

Parents and grandparents were restless as judge Lynn Meeks gave the final results during the 2009 4-H Junior Dog Show.
Scarlett, an Italian Greyhound shown by Tripp Oliphant, won Best in Show among 23 participating dogs. Unlike other competitive shows, based on pedigree and breed characteristics, the 4-H Junior Dog Show is a fun experience for all members of the family, including the dog.
Lynn Meeks, a member of the Salisbury Kennel Club, judged the show, taking time to explain to both audience and participants her rationale behind each decision in placing the animals. Key areas of consideration included showmanship, the relationship between the youth and the dog, eye contact and awareness of the judge and grooming of the dog. Meeks also quizzed exhibitors with simple questions to test their knowledge of the dog.
All exhibitors received a ribbon and the Best of Class received both a ribbon and a trophy. Here are the results of the 2009 4-H Junior Dog Show at the Rowan County Fair:
