Man charged in Friday night stabbing

A Stanfield man is charged with trying to kill a China Grove man by stabbing him in the neck.
Richard Wayne Hinson, 28, of 6425 Talley Road, Stanfield, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday at 190 Fish House Road, which is off N.C. 152 in the Bostian community.
Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan Sheriff’s Office said Hinson got into an argument with Kenneth Paul Chaika, 44, of 190 Fish House Road.
Investigators said the fight began when a woman present at the house accused Chaika of hitting her.
Sifford said alcohol was involved.
During the argument, Hinson stabbed Chaika in the neck. Emergency medical workers on the scene Friday night said Chaika had been stabbed in the trachea and suffered “major neck trauma.”
Chaika was transported by Rowan EMS to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. He was transferred to CMC in Charlotte, where he underwent surgery.
Sifford said Hinson was apprehended near the scene.
He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center with bond set at $100,000.
