History: West Montgomery and North were in the 2A YVC in the mid-1990s. All the meetings between the schools were from 1993-96. nLast week: North overcame early woes to beat Chatham Central 34-7; West Montgomery laid it on South Davidson 61-0
Next week: North finishes the regular season at home against South Davidson; West Montgomery is at rival East Montgomery
Cavaliers on the road: 2-3
Game notes: North has won four out of five. Three of the wins were easy against the lightly regarded bottom half of the YVC, but the Cavaliers gained some respect with a good road win at South Stanly and a competitive loss at Albemarle.
North needs tonight’s game for a winning season, but it will be an underdog on the road against an explosive team that’s scored 40-plus points four times. Coordinator Rodney Goodine will prepare Garland Archie and his defensive teammates for another big effort. North allows only 151.5 yards per game and 77.9 on the ground.
West Montgomery alum Vince Jordan ran all over Catawba in a Wingate uniform Saturday, so there are guys down in Mount Gilead and Troy who can play. Current stars for the Warriors include sophomore QB Jaquil Capel as well as backs Landon Jordan and Terry Pegues.
West Montgomery’s losses were to private-school power Charlotte Latin, Jordan-Matthews (8-2) and Albemarle (9-0).
North did play Albemarle tougher (21-6) than West Montgomery, which was flattened 49-7 by the strong Bulldogs. ó Mike London
