SAN DIEGO ó Rookie Ty Lawson had 29 points, six assists and five steals to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Lakers 119-105 in the exhibition finale.
Lawson, a 5-foot-11 guard from 2009 NCAA champion North Carolina, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter when the Nuggets pulled out to a 107-86 lead with 5:05 remaining. He was 8 of 12 from the field and 13 of 16 from the free-throw line.
GOLF
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ó Troy Matteson had never shot a 61 until this week. Now he’s done it twice in a row to set a PGA Tour record.
His second straight 9-under round at the Frys.com Open on Saturday gave him a three-shot lead at 16-under 194 heading into the final round.
– SAN ANTONIO ó Andy Bean shot a 5-under 67 for a share of the second-round lead with Russ Cochran in the Champions Tour’s AT&T Championship.
NHL
ST. PAUL, Minn. ó Cal Clutterbuck scored 1:55 into overtime and the Minnesota Wild beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2.
Sergei Samsonov and Joni Pitkanen scored for the Hurricanes.
Carolina remained winless in seven games away from the RBC Center.

PITTSBURGH ó Nicklas Bergfors, Travis Zajac and Zach Parise each had a goal and an assist and the New Jersey Devils snapped the Pittsburgh Penguins’ winning streak at seven.

PHILADELPHIA ó Danny Briere had two goals for Philadelphia.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. ó Mike Green scored in the third period and set up Brooks Laich’s overtime winner for Washington.

OTTAWA ó Patrice Bergeron scored the lone shootout goal after Boston overcame a 3-1 deficit in the final 1:28 of regulation.
