Despite a score by Garus on a missed clear and Vandezande’s first goal of the season, East trailed 5-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Garus scored on an assist by Reid Lippard to make it 5-3, and East fought within 7-5 with four minutes left before the Mustangs ran out of legs.
