Ruschco attempted robbery

staff report
Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob an East Innes Street convenience store.
The attempt occurred around 9:55 a.m. Thursday at the Rushco No. 16 at 1518 East Innes St.
According to police, a clerk went out the back door with the bank deposit bag.
As she approached her car, she noticed a movement and saw a white man with a black ski mask running toward her.
She told police he had a black object that looked like a flash light with the head off. As he approached her, he threatened to hit and said something that was unclear but indicated he wanted the money bag.
At that point the clerk threw her cup of coffee on him, and he ran off toward Newsome Road.
Police responded and used a tracking dog to follow the trail across several streets. The dog lost the scent in the 200 block of Fairview Street.
Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said the clerk believed the man had been in the store earlier that morning and may have seen her getting the deposit ready.
Police and the clerk are reviewing video recordings on the store security camera.
