From staff reportsSouth Rowan’s Michael York won the United Wary Unifour Cross Country Meet held at Southside Park in Newton on Wednesday.
York ran a time of 16:10.77 and led the Raiders to a third-place finish.
T.C. Roberson won the event with 45 points. Led by Ross Oden, who placed fourth in 16:31.04, East Rowan’s boys finished second. South was third.
Other top runners for East included Cole Honeycutt (7th), Eli Walton (24th), Brad Oden (25th) and Preston Dixon (51st).
A.L. Brown’s Larry Scaggs placed third in 16:24.14.
Dillon Kluttz was 14th and led West Rowan. Carson’s top runner was Nick Golden, who was 76th.
n T.C. Roberson also won the girls competition.
Carson’s Sierra Zemanick (19th) led Rowan runners. Emily Kinney (24th) paced South. Leslie Pence (30th) was the top finisher for West Rowan. Kristen Hatley (36th) led East. A.L. Brown’s Hannah Bonnarigo was 28th.

n Pfeiffer basketball
Duke has announced the tip-off time for its men’s basketball exhibition contest with Pfeiffer on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Gametime at Cameron Indoor Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. Duke hosts Maryland at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in ACC football.
The Blue Devil ISP Radio Network will carry the game live next Saturday. Local stations who are part of the Blue Devil Radio Network include WSTP-AM 1490 in Salisbury and WZKY-AM 1580 in Albemarle.
n Middle school tennis
Knox’s girls tennis team topped West Rowan 7-2 on Tuesday.
Winners for Knox in singles were Emalee Young, Susanna Dixon, Emma Labovitz, Maddie Labovitz, Kate Grant and Kathleen Mowery.
Young won 8-7 against Adrien Rusher. Dixon won 8-4 against Tori Adams. Emma Labovitz won 8-4 against Elizabeth Freeze. Maddie Labovitz won 8-0 against Saddie Hannold. Grant won 8-1 against Ginger Hernandez. Mowery won 8-0 against Erica Archer.
McCleese Whittington and Hannah Sunding won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles for the Trojans. West won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Knox is 7-1. The loss was to Erwin.
The Trojans are scheduled to play at Erwin on Oct. 19.
