Next week: Both teams have their open week before they start league play
Game notes: Davie is only 2-3, but that’s 2-3 with a bullet. It’s won its last two.
Salisbury has lost to West Rowan and South Rowan, but this is an unusually good year for Rowan football so far. Salisbury may only be the third-best team in Rowan this year, but it has a pretty good chance to win this game against a quality 4A opponent and it will have a chance to win the CCC championship.
These programs first squared off from 1977-80, but they haven’t scheduled each other in a while. While Davie has won the last four, Salisbury had its way with Davie from 1993-96 and laid a 64-0 beating on the War Eagles in 1995.Both teams may have played their best game of this season against West Rowan ó and still lost.
Salisbury owns the stronger running game (204 yards per game), but Davie has had more passing success (120 yards per game).
Salisbury’s defense has better numbers, permitting four fewer points and 47 fewer yards per game than the War Eagles.
SHS basketball marvel Darien Rankin has proven to be almost as dominating on the football field. Linebacker Kenyatta Brand has been very tough for Davie.
