Published 12:00 am Friday, September 11, 2009

Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: South Rowan 2-1; Concord Robinson 1-1
Series: First meeting
Last week: South lost at NW Cabarrus 17-14; Robinson fell to Piedmont 20-14
Next week: South is at Central Cabarrus; Robinson at Carson
Game notes: South’s on the road again in Cabarrus County, but it’s expected to have a less challenging time at Robinson.
Robinson led 7-3 at halftime last week but fell to a lightly regarded Piedmont team that was missing its starting quarterback.
Robinson, coached by Bobby Cloninger, is led by quarterback Robert Cloninger and running backs Antonio Francis and Jacob Allen.
The Bulldogs won their opening game by a lopsided margin against Cuthbertson, a new school in Union County.
Robinson hasn’t played many Rowan teams since the school opened in 2001, but the Bulldogs did shut out Salisbury twice in their first two seasons of operation. Robinson also lost its only meeting with East Rowan in 2001.
South has played three strong opponents รณ all three are 2-1. The Raiders rank second in the county in offense with 326.6 yards per game.
They are fifth in defense, but they’ve already seen Salisbury’s John Knox and Romar Morris, A.L. Brown’s Travis Riley and Northwest’s Jeremy Cannon.
Linebackers Jacob Baker and Madison Hobbs and their defensive teammates should be able to hold the Bulldogs to a single TD and improve those defensive numbers.
The Raiders probably can win this one without bringing their ‘A’ game, but they’d like to get back on track tonight and next week. They need to build momentum. They visit Mount Ulla on Sept. 25.
