Series: First meeting
Last week: West Davidson cruised past new school Wheatmore 40-0; Carson lost to Salisbury 50-6
Next week: West Davidson is home against Ledford; Carson is home against Concord Robinson
Game notes: 1A East Wilkes smashed West Davidson 50-26 opening night, but the Green Dragons rebounded with victories against South Davidson and Wheatmore.
West Davidson allowed Wheatmore only 56 yards last week, and QB James McCandies threw two TD passes. West Davidson also has a good running game. Backs Ozzie Moore and T.C. Moore have been productive. They aren’t related.
West Davidson plays Salisbury very tough every season in the CCC, so it should come into the game with plenty of confidence after watching film of Carson being annihilated in the trenches by the Hornets last week.Carson tailback Shaun Warren’s speed could hurt the Green Dragons if his line can spring him. He’s rushed for 404 yards, second in the county. Cody Clanton has been an effective receiver. He’s tied for second in the county with 129 receiving yards.
Carson ranks fourth in the county offensively, but it is last defensively. The Cougars are permitting 306.3 yards per game.
Nose MIcah Honeycutt is one of the leaders of a unit that expects a better performance than last week.
The programs know each other well. Carson assistant Barry Mitchem was head coach at West Davidson for years, and current WD head coach Dale Barnes was his defensive coordinator.
Carson dropped several notches on the respect meter last week. Look for a much better effort tonight.
It’s Carson’s home opener.
