Time: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Page 1-0; Davie 0-1
Series: Davie leads 4-0
Last meeting: Davie pulled out a 50-49 OT decision in 2008
Last week: Page ripped Winston-Salem Parkland 54-14; Davie was stunned 3-0 by Alexander Central
Next week: Page is home against Northern Durham; Davie is at West Rowan
Game notes: Not many teams would trade places with Davie right now. Coming off a surprising loss to Alexander Central, the War Eagles catch a team that’s going to be angry. Page lost to them 50-49 last season in the greatest comeback in Davie history. Page is also a team that amassed 340 yards in its opening game while holding Parkland to negative rushing yards.
If that’s not enough, West Rowan is on deck for the War Eagles, who have to regroup in a serious hurry.
Davie barely reached 100 yards of offense last week.
Quarterback Jacob Barber (ribs) is expected to play tonight after sitting out the opener. Carson Herndon, who quarterbacked the opener, will also be ready.
Davie couldn’t get its ground game untracked last week (52 yards) and didn’t get a ton of production from standout receiver Joe Watson (four catches, 37 yards).
Davie’s defense, sparked by linebacker Jared Barber and DB Zach Long (blocked field goal), did its part last week to give the War Eagles a chance to win.
Davie has to stop 5-foot-6 Page running back Thuc Phan, who had 172 yards rushing, including a 54-yard scamper, last Friday.
D’Andre Starnes had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for the Pirates.
Page has had three straight winning seasons and is expected to rack up a fourth.
