Wagner has two hits in debut with Kannapolis

Staff reportDaniel Wagner (South Rowan) went 2-for-4 in his debut with the Kannapolis Intimidators on Thursday night.
Batting eighth in the lineup and playing second base, Wagner had an infield hit in the second inning to complete his first at-bat in the South Atlantic League. He scored on a two-run single by Eduardo Escobar.
Wagner added a single to center in the sixth inning.
Kannapolis won 7-3 at Greenville, S.C., for its 12th straight victory. The Intimidators had 14 hits, including three each by Jon Gilmore and Luis Sierra. Kenny Williams homered.
Australian James Albury (5-0) pitched five innings for the win.
Alex Hassan smacked an inside-the-park homer for Greenville.
Wagner, a 2006 South graduate, played three years at Belmont and was drafted in the 16th round by the Chicago White Sox in June.
He had 10 homers, 57 RBIs and 24 stolen bases as a junior at Belmont. He made his pro debut at Bristol in the Appalachian League earlier this summer and batted .258 with a homer, 10 doubles, 26 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 56 games.
Kannapolis owns a six-game lead in the SAL’s second-half race and returns home Tuesday.
