National sports briefs: Cavaliers sign Green

CLEVELAND ó The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed rookie Danny Green, their second-round pick in this year’s NBA draft.
The 6-foot-6 Green is the only player in ACC history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists, 150 3-pointers, 150 blocks and 150 steals. He averaged 8.2 points in five games in the Las Vegas Summer League.
n ATLANTA ó The Hawks signed Joe Smith.
n TAMPA, Fla. ó Disgraced referee Tim Donaghy was back behind bars Tuesday, accused of violating his federal probation by not showing up for work, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

RENTON, Wash. ó Edgerrin James signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
n Plaxico Burress is planning to return to the NFL after serving a two-year prison sentence.
“When I get out, I’ll be 33, not 43,” Burress said in an ESPN interview.
n CANTON, Ohio ó Former Broncos running back Floyd Little and Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau are finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
n Scouting assistant Rich Behm and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, Dallas Cowboys employees seriously injured in the collapse of the team’s indoor practice facility, filed lawsuits against the company that designed the structure and others linked to its construction and repair.
