The premier chamber group of the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society, Una Voce, will present “SoundWaves: A Vocal Jazz Experience,” under the direction of Damien Evans at Looking Glass Arts Collective, 405 N. Lee St.
The performance is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the collective’s black box theater/gallery. A cocktail hour and silent auction starts at 6:30 p.m.
As a new ensemble, the Choral Society is very excited to further introduce Una Voce to the Salisbury-Rowan area and to stretch the repertoire of both groups to include vocal jazz, a feat not easily done.
Ensemble highlights of the show will include “I Sing, You Sing” and more made famous by The Real Group, a vocal jazz quintet from Sweden; “Java Jive” as performed by the legendary Manhattan Transfer; “Star-Spangled Banner” as performed by the vocal jazz standard New York Voices; and an exquisite arrangement of “Fields of Gold,” made famous by Sting. Solo tunes will include a rare performance of “Peachtree Blues” as rejuvenated by Janelle Monae, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” as performed by Bonnie Rait, “Stormy Monday” as performed by Eva Cassidy and more.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz, blues and conversation.
Admission is free.
