The Rowan County American Legion team won the state championship, taking a 5-3 victory over Shelby on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville.
Shelby won 7-3 earlier Wednesday to force a second championship game in the double-elimination event.
Preston Troutman and Billy Veal handled the pitching for Rowan in the final. Rowan advanced to the Southeast Regional tournament in Sumter, S.C., on Aug. 6-10.
