Staff report
Shelby has forced a second championship game thanks to its 7-3 victory against previously unbeaten Rowan County on Wednesday afternoon.
An RBI triple by Zach Smith tied the game with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Smith was thrown out at home following a diving stop by second baseman Julian Bridges in the next at-bat.
Shelby’s Julian Ridings homered off Cody Laws on the first pitch of the ninth inning, and Post 82 tacked on three more runs.
The second game will start at 5 p.m. Preston Troutman (Rowan) and Brett Mabry (Shelby) are expected to start on the mound.
