Rowan wins Area III title

Rowan County captured the Area III title with a 17-11 win at Mooresville on Tuesday night.
Rowan trailed 6-1, tied the score, then fell behind 8-6 before using a seven-run inning to claim control. It went 2-0 in the best-of-three series.
Rowan will face Area II runner-up Duplin-Sampson on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the American Legion state tournament at East Carolina’s Clark-LeClair Stadium. Mooresville will face Area I champ Rocky Mount at 4:30 p.m.
