Area sports: Kannapolis wins

Matt Mariano pitched a complete game and struck out 15 batters as Kannapolis’ American Legion baseball team picked up a 10-1 win against Stanly County on Friday night.
Mariano allowed only four hits and one unearned run. Wes Honeycutt had three hits for Kannapolis (4-12, 4-9), and John J. Tuttle homered.
Kannapolis plays host to South Rowan tonight. Former Kannapolis Legion players will be honored in pregame festivities.
n Wilkes beat Mocksville 4-2 on Friday on the strength of a three-run homer in the seventh. Jake Koontz took the loss for Mocksville.
n Junior Legion
Salisbury lost 7-0 to Mooresville on Friday in the completion of a suspended game.
The Cavornets failed to capitalize on several opportunities to score as Mooresville pitcher Keith Little worked out of jams.
Dakota Brown was the losing pitcher. Brown and Patrick Snider led the Cavornets at the plate.
n Intimidators loseThe Kannapolis Intimidators lost 4-3 at Hickory in 12 innings on Friday.
Leury Garcia delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the 12th for the Crawdads.
Sergio Morales hit a two-run homer for the Intimidators.
n Local golf
Paul Ceremuga made a hole-in-one at McCanless on Friday on the 145-yard No. 3 hole.
Ceremuga used a 5-iron.
He made his second career ace and first in 25 years while playing with the “Quarter Guys” group consisting of Gene Seaford, Walt Kincaid and Winston Smith.
n Winners in Rowan Masters match play on Friday were defending champion Ronnie Eidson, Ken Clarke, Richard Cobb, Neal Hiatt, Steve Gegorek, Derek Lipe, Matt Ray, Matt Gryder, qualifying medalist Phil Miller, Chris Owen, Gerald Staton, Ronnie Mangum, Keith Dorsett, Jimmy Christy, Sean Kramer and Mike Mills.
n Salisbury resident Frank Adams leads by one stroke after three rounds of the eGolf Professional Tour’s Spring Creek Championship event at Gordonsville, Va.
Adams shot 68-66-67 รณ 201 and is 15-under.
n ER wrestling camp
The East Rowan wrestling camp for all ages will be held Tuesday and Wednesday.
The camp will be held from 8-11:30 a.m. and resume from 1-4:30 p.m. after lunch each day. Registration on Tuesday runs from 7:30-8 a.m.
The cost is $50, payable to East Rowan High.

Charlotte’s Serena Smith (NW Cabarrus) was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State team. She batted .363 with 37 RBIs.
