Area sports briefs: Intimidators lose on road

West Virginia’s Rudy Owens shut down the Intimidators 6-0 on Tuesday, allowing one hit and no walks in eight innings.
Zach Larson’s double was the only hit for Kannapolis in the road contest.
It was the fourth time Kannapolis (34-30) has been blanked this season.
Erik Huber went 4-for-4 with a homer for the Power.
– Salisbury Stingz
The Salisbury Stingz 10-under girls basketball team won the Rowan County Invitational Tournament by defeating the TopCats 35-23 in the championship game. Taylor Martin led the Stingz with 19 points. Olivia Gabriel added eight.
Other team members are Kathryn Rusher, Brittany Small, Brianna Troutman, Peyton Russell, Niah Stratt, Kiara McClary, Veronica Bost and Destiny Jackson.
Stingz coaches are Todd Gabriel and Clai Martin.
– Hole-in-one
Bob Martin recorded a hole-in-one on No. 13 at Corbin Hills on Tuesday.
Martin used a driver on the 150-yard hole. Billie Martin and Roland Robinson witnessed the feat.
– McCanless Couples
Twenty-three golfers participated in a McCanless Couples outing with a Texas Scramble format.
Matt and Liz Murphy won with a 33. Trudy Csanyi and Mike Quinn shot 35 and took second in a scorecard playoff with Sharon Miller and Tim Earnhardt. Harry Owens won closest to the pin honors.
* Nineteen McCanless Couples golfers played at Lake Louise in Mocksville.
Miller and Norman Carlton won with a 78. Andy Swanson and Beverly Cobb shot 79 for second. Kim Kincaid and Andy Canup finished third at 84.
– Corbin Ladies
The Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association played in a low gross-low net event on Tuesday. Phyllis Durland won low gross, with Becky Isenhour finishing second.
Beth Calhoun won low net. She was followed by Liz Murphy and Azalee Story.
– Carson volleyball
There will be a volleyball clinic at Carson for grades 6-9 from 5-7 p.m. on June 22. Cost is $10.
There will also be a volleyball 101 offered to parents from 6:45-7:45 for $5 to discuss basics and rules. Show up ready to play.
