Area Sports Briefs: Kimber to Livingstone

West Rowan guard Kaleb Kimber has signed with Livingstone’s basketball program.
The 5-foot-10 Kimber averaged 10.7 points as a senior for coach Mike Gurley and scored in double figures 16 times. He scored a career-high 28 in an 87-75 victory against Northwest Cabarrus.
All-Rowan County and All-NPC, Kimber scored 652 points in three varsity seasons at West. He also scored 35 points as a varsity freshman at Salisbury.

n World-record try
John Peterson will attempt to establish a world’s record today at The Forum.
Peterson will be doing abdominal crunches on a 90-degree incline board for an hour. Peterson will begin the attempt at 9:30 a.m.
n Loman: three homers
Seth Loman slugged three home runs, but the Kannapolis Intimidators still needed 10 innings to secure a 6-4 win over on Friday night at Greensboro’s NewBridge Bank Park.
Loman hit all three of his home runs off of Greensboro starter Tom Koehler, lifting his season total to seven long balls in 81 at-bats. All three were solo shots.
NewBridge Bank Park is traditionally considered a hitter-friendly yard, but Loman did not need the help, crushing three balls to right-center.
Justin Greene got the Intimidators offense going with a solo home run to lead off the first.
Kannapolis plated the winning runs in the top of the tenth off of Greensboro’s all-star closer Pete Andrelczyk (0-1). Eduardo Escobar singled to score Jose Vargas, before right fielder Justin Bass overran the ball and allowed John Curtis to plate an insurance run.
Charlis Burdie (4-4) fired two perfect frames for the win.
n Minor leagues
Fort Myers lefty Spencer Steedley (East Rowan) pitched a scoreless inning Friday in a 6-1 loss against Daytona and lowered his ERA to 0.63.
n Wood bat leagues
Craige Lyerly (East Rowan, Catawba) was 2-for-4 for Asheboro in a 5-3 win against Forest City on Friday.
Wade Moore (West Rowan) had one hit for Forest City’s Owls.n Gatorade winner
North Davidson outfielder Tisha Mahon was named Gatoraade Softball Player of the Year for North Carolina.
Mahon signed with UNC. She batted .536 and was 30-for-30 on stolen bases.
n Godstock golf
Godstock’s 15th Annual Adam Myers Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 20, at McCanless.
Registration is at 8 a.m. Shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Cost is $50 per player, $200 per team, and includes mulligan and tee buster.
Lunch is provided.
Proceeds assist families of chronically ill children.

n Salisbury soccer camps
Salisbury soccer coach Tom Sexton will be holding two camps in July.
A skills camp is scheduled July 20-24 while a team camp is set for July 27-31. Each camp is $90 or $160 for both. The camps will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Salisbury soccer practice facility located beside the old Wiley Elementary School.
Registration and physical forms can be picked up at the Salisbury High office and at all feeder schools to Salisbury.
