Deadline extended on two contests sponsored by the Writers' Workshop

– Meet the Authors Writing Contest: E.L. Doctorow and Peter Matthiessen in N.Y. Deadline: Extended to May 30. Winners are eligible for a free trip to New York in July to meet National Book Award-winning authors Doctorow and Matthiessen at their homes on Long Island. Winners also get autographed books by the authors or may opt for a combined $1,000 in cash prizes instead of the trip; 10 honorable mentions. All winners will be notified by June 15, and posted to our Web site.
First place, $500 or an all-expense paid trip to meet the authors; second, $300 or meet the authors, accommodation provided; third, $200 or meet the authors.Submit an unpublished story or chapter of a novel (literary fiction or creative non-fiction), of 5,000 words or less. Pages should be paper clipped. Name, address, e-mail, phone and title of work should appear on a cover sheet. Double-space; use 12 point font; entry fee, $25 per story. Multiple entries accepted. Enclose legal size, self-sealing SASE for critique and list of winners. Do not use Fedex, certified mail, etc. Make check or money order payable to The Writers’ Workshop; mail to: Author’s Contest, 387 Beaucatcher Road, Asheville, NC 28805. – 20th annual poetry contest deadline: Extended to June 1.
All work must be unpublished. Each poem should not exceed two pages. Multiple entries accepted. Name, address, phone, e-mail and title of work should appear on a separate cover sheet; entry fee, $20; $15 for Workshop members, for every three poems. First place, $300; second, $200; third, $100; 10 honorable mentions.
