Area sports briefs: Regional golf today at Warrior

CCC champion Salisbury will compete in the Midwest Regional golf tournament at Warrior today.
CCC individual champion Roy Dixon leads the Hornets.
North Rowan’s Miller Sokolowski qualified for the regional as an individual.
Play begins at 8 a.m.
The low three schools and low three individuals not from one of the qualifying schools will advance to the state championship next week at Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines.
– Prep soccer
Tonight’s soccer match between West Rowan and South Rowan in Landis begins at 7 p.m.
– Prep baseball
West Rowan plays a makeup game at Northwest Cabarrus tonight. The Falcons (12-8, 9-5) have won 12 of their last 14.
– College softball
Devon Williams (West Rowan) had a two-run single for Maryland in a 9-2 loss to Georgia Tech.n Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators stranded 10 baserunners and lost to Lake County 4-3 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Sunday. The Intimidators (14-10) were 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
It was the first time this season Kannapolis lost a game started by Charlie Leesman.
* Stockton’s David Thomas (Catawba) hit a solo homer and a two-run double in a 10-4 victory against Bakersfield on Saturday. Thomas had two more doubles Sunday in a loss to Bakersfield.
* Round Rock’s Jeremy Johnson (Mooresville) stayed on a roll, closing out Saturday’s 5-0 victory against Albuquerque, the Dodgers’ top farm team.
Johnson pitched three scoreless innings, fanned four and lowered his ERA to 1.62.
* Saturday wasn’t a great night for former A.L. Brown hurlers. Wisconsin’s Garrett Sherrill allowed two runs in an inning of work, while New Britain’s Zach Ward’s ERA took a hit when he was charged with four runs in a relief appearance.
– Catawba baseball
Southeast Regional pairings will be released May 10.
Catawba and Belmont Abbey have wrapped up berths.
The Peach Belt Conference Tournament is being held May 9-10 at USC Aiken, with the winner securing an automatic bid.
– Middle school ball
Nathan Bancroft pitched a no-hitter as the Cabarrus-Rowan Stallions beat Corriher-Lipe 10-0.Coleman Wilson had four hits and five RBIs for the Stallions.
David Patefield had three hits. Bancroft, Paul Blankley, Todd Patefield and Christopher Wescott had two hits each.
Third baseman Bryson Shepherd led the defense.
– Rowan Explosion
The Rowan Explosion won the 12-under championship in the USBA Komets Invitational in Kannapolis on Sunday, defeating North Carolina Flight of Gastonia 40-25 in the final.
Lauren Thomas led the Explosion with 15 points in the championship game, while Karleigh Wike had 12 points and 19 rebounds. Kelli Fisher and Thomas had six rebounds each.
Jessica Rummage, Kacie Stamey, Kendall Brown and Josie McNeely were defensive standouts as the Explosion avenged a 44-27 loss in pool play on Saturday.
Wike had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to N.C. Flight, and Katie Kepley had six rebounds and four steals.
The Explosion defeated the Archdale-Trinity Bulldogs twice during Saturday’s pool play.
Wike had 53 points, 57 rebounds and 14 blocked shots during the tournament.
Sydney Turner, Shelby Davis and Haley Hepburn are other team members.
– Hoops Unlimited
The 16th Annual Hoops Unlimited Basketball Camp for boys and girls will be held at two sites.
Camp at Richfield Elementary will be held June 15-18 for rising 2nd-5th graders and June 22-25 for rising 6th-9th graders.
Camp at Erwin Middle will be held July 6-9 for rising 2nd-5th graders and July 13-16 for rising 6th-9th graders.
The cost of the all-day camp is $95 and includes a camp T-shirt and “all you can eat” lunch daily. For a brochure or other information, contact camp director Rick Roseman at 704-279-7334.
– McCanless Couples
The McCanless Couples played nine holes Sunday.
Charlie Gillispie and Joan Stebbins won. Mark Haviland and Samantha Haviland finished second. Yvonne Barger and Don Smith were third.
– West basketball
West Rowan High boys basketball coach Mike Gurley will hold a meeting with rising ninth-graders who will attend West next year on May 12 from 5:30-6 p.m.
