Business roundup: Financial adviser who is a Salisbury native honored

Ron Davidson of Greensboro has qualified for the “Top of the Table” of the Million Dollar Round Table ó the Premier Association of Financial Professionals.
A Salisbury native, Davidson is a 22-year MDRT member.
Top of the Table status is the highest level of MDRT membership and places Davidson among the top professionals in the global life insurance and financial services industry.
“Attaining Top of the Table membership in MDRT is a distinguishing career milestone reserved for a select few like Rondol Davidson who have proven that they are among the ‘best of the best,’ ” says MDRT President Walton W. Rogers of Annapolis, Md.

Thrivent Financial honors Hough
Boyd M. Hough, a financial representative with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, has qualified for the organization’s Summit Circle for 2008 achievements.
To qualify for the Summit Circle, Hough demonstrated outstanding sales and service to members.
Hough, of Salisbury, is with Thrivent Financial’s Southeast Regional Financial Office and serves Lutherans and their family members in the surrounding communities by providing financial guidance and solutions to help them achieve their financial goals.
Fewer than 200 of Thrivent Financial’s 2,600 financial representatives qualified for the Summit Circle. Hough has been with Thrivent Financial and its predecessor organizations for 27 years and has been recognized for his performance 27 times.

RCCC marketing seminar April 6
The Small Business Center at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will host a free marketing seminar April 6 in China Grove.
Sherre DeMao, owner of an award-winning marketing firm in Denver, N.C., will present the free seminar, “How Do I Market My Small Business,” at the South Rowan Regional Library, at 6:30 p.m.

R3 Center offering career workshops
KANNAPOLIS ó The R3 Center is offering numerous career development workshops and resume clinics in April for adults in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. All of the programs are free.
Located at 164 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis, the R3 Center is a career development center established by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to assist workers who are unemployed or under-employed.
The center’s mission is built on three Rs ó a refocus on individual skills and interests, retraining and further education, and partnering with other workforce development agencies to secure career-oriented re-employment.
The R3 Center encourages clients to call the center in advance at 704-216-7201 to reserve a seat.
The center’s April schedule of workshops:
– New Client Launch ń 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays; 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays; and 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays. New Client Launch is an orientation program for people who have never attended an R3 Center workshop or taken advantage of its other services.
– The ABCs of Computer Usage ó 10 a.m. to noon, April 3 and April 24;
– It’s Not Who You Know, It’s Who You Meet ó 9, 10 and 11 a.m. on April 4;
– N.C. Research Campus Careers 101 ó 6 to 8 p.m., April 7, at RCCC’s North Campus, and 6 to 8 p.m. on April 28 at the North Carolina Research Campus Visitor Center;
– Identifying Your Career Options ó 10 a.m. to noon on April 8 and April 17, 6 to 8 p.m. on April 22, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 30;
– Interview Techniques ó 9 to 11 a.m. on April 9;
– Looking for Work at 50+ ó 6 to 8 p.m. on April 14;
– Stand Out from the Competition ó 6 to 8 p.m. on April 15;
– Looking for Work with a Criminal Record ó 9 to 11 a.m. on April 16.
The R3 Center will offer a number of free resumé clinics to help job searchers. Call to reserve a seat. Clinics are scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 2, 7, 18 and 21 and 2 p.m. on April 29.
The center’s office hours are: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. The center is open 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for workshops and previously scheduled appointments only.

Money management workshop on April 9
CONCORD ó The Student Services Department at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will host a money management workshop: “Making and Sticking to a Budget,” on April 9, at 9:30 a.m., in South Campus room 2225 (2000 Building). The public is invited.

Tax time food drive to help Salvation Army
The Salvation Army and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service have announced a food drive partnership.
You can save $5 per can of food on tax preparation fees up to $50 off at participating locations through April 15.
All food collected will go to The Salvation Army.
Jackson Hewitt and Jiffy Tax Service tax preparers can help with new tax law changes this year.

Raleigh a top place for business
RALEIGH ó Ken Atkins, executive director for Wake County Economic Development has announced the Raleigh metropolitan area has been named the “Best Place for Business and Careers” for the third straight year by Forbes.com.
The media outlet reviewed the 200 largest metropolitan areas in the United States.
The Raleigh-Wake County region region is strengthened by strong job growth, low business costs and highly educated workforce.
