Cherry, former Tar Heel, named coach at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) ó High Point has named former North Carolina player Scott Cherry as its basketball coach.
The 38-year-old Cherry played on the Tar Heels team that won the national title in 1993. He comes to High Point after one season on Darrin Hood’s staff at South Carolina. He also has been an assistant at Western Kentucky, George Mason and Tennessee Tech.
He replaces Bart Lundy, who was fired March 9 after six seasons. The Panthers were 9-21 and finished in a tie for last place in the Big South.
