BRISTOL, Tenn. ó This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the late Dale Earnhardt’s first NASCAR victory, and his son wishes he had a video of the monumental race.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he’s only ever seen clips of his father’s 1979 win at Bristol Motor Speedway and would love to see the entire race.
Speaking Friday at the track where the elder Earnhardt won nine races, Junior says his dad’s 1985 victory at the Tennessee track is his favorite. Earnhardt lost his power steering 50 laps into the race and went on to win in an unbelievable feat of strength.
The elder Earnhardt was killed in an accident on the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.
